What is Herd Harmony?

Herd Harmony is a unique, person-centred support program designed for individuals with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and High Anxiety. Rooted in a trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming approach, this program places horses at the heart of healing.

There is no set curriculum—Herd Harmony is guided entirely by the individual’s emotional, sensory, and mental health needs. Whether someone chooses to groom, sit quietly, lead, observe, or simply be with the horse, each session creates a safe, accepting, and non-judgemental space to feel calm, seen, and supported.

Why Horses?

Horses are intuitive, non-verbal communicators who respond to human emotion without expectation or judgment. They create an ideal therapeutic partner for people with complex needs, offering genuine connection in a way that words often can’t.

Research shows that equine-assisted interventions can significantly reduce stress, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation, especially in individuals with autism or trauma backgrounds. The horse’s sensitivity to body language and emotional states mirrors participants’ internal experiences, fostering greater self-awareness and emotional insight.

Who is it For?

Herd Harmony is designed for individuals who benefit from tailored support and gentle emotional scaffolding, including:

  • Individuals with SEN, including sensory processing differences, Autism and ADHD
  • People living with PTSD or complex trauma
  • Anyone experiencing chronic or acute anxiety
  • Individuals who struggle with verbal expression or traditional talk therapy

No prior experience with horses is required. We adapt entirely to the individual’s pace, preferences, and comfort.
